• Immediate Response Action Activities
• Geoprobe Investigation
• Method I Risk Characterization &
  Response Action Outcome

A pad-mounted transformer located on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts was struck by a motor-vehicle in late December 2000, resulting in the release of non-PCB transformer oil to soil at the Site. The release was determined to require notification to the DEP, and an Immediate Response Action was initiated at the Site consisting of initial cleanup activities and a limited soil removal. Subsequent to initial containment and cleanup of the release by Massachusetts Electric Company (MECo) personnel, Coneco responded at the Site on behalf of MECo and provided oversight of soil sampling within the release area. Laboratory analysis of the collected soil samples indicated significant residual contamination remained at the Site, and a Geoprobe, investigation was performed by Coneco to determine the extent of subsurface impact at the Site. Upon delineation of the release, Coneco provided oversight of additional soil removal activities at the Site. Resulting Site soil conditions met the requirements for an A-2 Response Action Outcome (RAO), and Coneco provided successful closure of the Site under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan.
